Cognitive and Neuropsychological Assessments
If you or a loved one are experiencing thinking or memory difficulties and have concerns about dementia, an assessment may be a helpful tool to determine the best course of action. Comprehensive assessments include an evaluation of an individual’s cognitive, memory, language, motor, executive, emotional, and adaptive functioning. An assessment can help to identify if there is a problem in one of these areas (and any potential diagnoses) to inform individualized treatment recommendations.

Caregiver Counseling Sessions
If you currently provide care for a loved one, you may qualify for FREE caregiver counseling sessions! Caregiving can be a rewarding but stressful experience, and many caregivers can benefit from the support of counseling services.
Topics generally include coping skills, education, connecting to community resources, help making decisions, addressing self-care, and emotional support.
The Aging Clinic of Southern Utah is proud to offer specialized services in the form of individual counseling to family caregivers of older adults. Thanks to our partnership with Americorps and Southern Utah University, we are able to offer up to 8 no-cost counseling sessions.
To qualify
The caregiver must be caring for an adult aged 60 and older.* The caregiver does not need to live with the care recipient, but the recipient may not be living in an assisted or long term care facility. (In the case of early-onset dementia, there is no minimum age requirement.)
Did you know?
According to recent estimates, 65.7 million Americans (or 29 % of the adult U.S. adult population involving 31 percent of all U.S. households) served as family caregivers for an ill or disabled relative (National Alliance for Caregiving, 2009). These caregivers consistently report experiencing emotional and physical strain, as it has been well established that caring for a sick relative promotes increased stress and burden for the caregiver. When caregivers are elderly and caring for their spouses with dementia, the stress of this undertaking may be compounded, with an increasing incidence of chronic medical and mental health concerns.
General Mental Health and Therapy Services
If you or a loved one are having a difficult time and would like some support, therapy services may be right for you. Therapy services can be effective in addressing a range of issues, including adjusting to life changes, caregiving, managing relationships, addressing depression and anxiety, coping with age-related concerns (such as managing pain or cognitive decline), combating feelings of loneliness or isolation, and addressing end-of-life concerns.
